But what is biodegradable confetti? And how can you use it for all kinds of sustainable celebrations? We're here to break it down with loads of information and inspiration!
What is biodegradable confetti?
Biodegradable confetti is a collection of decorative and festive pieces that break down or degrade through natural processes without causing ecological damage. In other words, in a short time (under the right conditions; that is, spread outside where microorganisms, fungi, water, or bacteria are naturally present) it will mix back into the soil without leaving behind any toxic, unnatural, or unnatural substances. . decomposing remains.
just put,Biodegradable confetti is confetti that you can safely use for outdoor celebrations as it does not leave any harmful or unnatural ecological impact..
Is all the confetti biodegradable?
No, not all confetti is biodegradable. Confetti can be made from many different materials: paper, plastic, wood, acrylic, leather... the list goes on! Different materials create a different look for any particular confetti mix, and the intended use should be a big determining factor when choosing the type. If you don't plan on using your confetti outdoors (that is, you plan on using it more for decorative purposes indoors or in "closed" situations where confetti can accumulate), choosing a biodegradable type might be a viable option that isn't necessary, but if If you plan to use the confetti outside, you'll definitely want to make sure your confetti is biodegradable and eco-friendly.
*Note: While not all confetti is biodegradable, it can often be made from recycled materials, which is another kind of luck. Here at The Confetti Bar we have very little waste as we are constantly repurposing/repurposing materials and waste and creating new confetti mixes for our biodegradable and non-biodegradable models.
What is biodegradable confetti made of?
Biodegradable confetti can be made from many different materials, but here at The Confetti Bar we currently offer three different types:
Solufetti™️: water soluble confetti
Our biodegradable Solufetti™️ confetti consists of a mixture ofwater soluble chips, mica and/or herbs. Water Soluble Chunks are made from corn starch, a biodegradable, non-toxic, water soluble material that degrades rapidly when exposed to moisture. The dyes used to make the colors are similar to food coloring (and are biodegradable and non-toxic).
Floralfetti™️: petal confetti
Our Floralfetti™️ biodegradable confetti consists ofall-natural freeze-dried flower petals, herbs and/or mica flakes. Coming directly from Mother Nature, this confetti is the most susceptible to changes caused by various conditions (humidity, light, temperature, seasonality, etc.). However, because the petals are freeze-dried, they retain a richer color and won't wilt, stain, or slip with proper care. Part of the fun of this style is the unique colors and textures that can change naturally!
Sproutfetti™️: plantable confetti (where flowers grow!)
Our Sproutfetti™️ biodegradable confetti is made froma compostable paper embedded with wildflower seeds. They are literally confetti that, when planted, grow! We source paper from a company that is CFIA and USDA approved for cultivation in many countries, and each batch of your seeds is tested to ensure it is free of weeds and invasive species (note that some may still remain). Restrictions on the export of this mix of styles to certain countries).
Are there types of biodegradable confetti that I should avoid?
We always encourage you to do your own research to ensure you are making the best decision for you and your beliefs. There are always a few things worth considering when choosing biodegradable confetti. Basically, the closer the material is to a natural elementmiThe lower the risk of environmental damage, the safer the choice should be.. You should always consider the environment in which you are using confetti and the people/animals that may be exposed to it.
For some additional considerations (particularly for releases), check this outThe 9 dos and cons of throwing eco-friendly wedding confetti at Catalyst Wedding Co.
A note about paper confetti:Paper in general is often considered a biodegradable material, as it actually breaks down when exposed to the elements. However, our caution here is to fully consider the nature and handling of the different types of paper. For example, dyes, inks, or additives that can be added to different types and finishes of paper can still pose a potential environmental risk, so we don't want to assume that ALL paper confetti is safe for outdoor use. You also need to consider what paper the confetti can be mixed with; for example, oursignature style confettiIt has a paper base, but also often contains metal/sequin parts, so this type is not biodegradable and we do not recommend outdoor use.
How long does the biodegradable confetti last? How far in advance should I order?
The type of biodegradable confetti you use makes a difference in how long it lasts.
In our case,Solufetti™️ y Sproutfetti™️ Both last incredibly (as long as they stay cool and dry). You can order these months (up to a year) before your event/project and you shouldn't have any problems.
Blumenfetti™️ As long as they are stored in a cool, dark and dry place, they also last a few months, but as the petals are much more likely to react to various heat/humidity/light conditions, we recommend ordering 1-3 months before your celebration.(At any length of time, you can still expect small changes to the petals with exposure to light/moisture/humidity/heat.)
How much biodegradable confetti do I need?
While the amount of confetti needed depends on personal preference, we have some general guidelines that we're happy to recommend for some common uses:
For a wedding/event offer:between ¼ and ½ cup per person for a small handful.
To sprinkle on tables/gift boxes:somewhere between 1 tablespoon - ¼ cup. (For usbulk biodegradable confetti, there are about 10 tablespoons per cup.)
As individual souvenirs/gifts: identicalconfetti cupper person, or order it in bulk to separate it in the packaging of your choice; the size of your container/bag will help you determine how much confetti to add.
How should I store and/or package the biodegradable confetti?
It is always the best course of action.Store any type of biodegradable confetti in a cool, dark, and dry place.until you are ready to use it. Basically, you want to limit the chances of being subjected to drastic changes in temperature, humidity, and light exposure. (Remember, confetti is biodegradablemeantthey deteriorate under the right circumstances when exposed to the elements, so you'll want to wait for that opportunity until you're ready!)
The type of packaging/presentation you choose for your biodegradable confetti depends on how you intend to use the confetti.
To throwYou may want to place eco-friendly confetti in a decorative container, basket, or kraft bag for people to grab a handful of. Alternative,You can make funnels/cones out of paperUse for individual "servings" of confetti toss.
for favorsYou may want to consider small jars (reusable!) or individual bags/packs (light!). Here at The Confetti Bar we offer volumeconfetti cupsas well as the volumeconfetti bagseach of which can be adjusted.
for a special giftYou can opt for a decorative glass vase. Here at The Confetti Bar, this is what we specialize in.customizable confetti jars for souvenirsmade for any special moment or occasion.
